HONDA

Honda's contribution to motorcycling is probably best appreciated if you imagine for a moment what the world would be like without the biggest bike firm of all. Say Soichiro Honda's big car crash in 1936 had been more serious than it was; or he had had never met Takeo Fujisawa and put the Honda Motor Co. on the road to prosperity all those years ago. What then? We'd still have bikes, of course, and no doubt many of them would still be fast and reliable and fun. But motorcycling wouldn't be the same, and not just because all the machines in this book would not exist. 9” X 6”

HONDA GOLDWING

By advancing the means of transporting two passengers and their luggage across vast states, or even whole continents, the Gold Wing has, in little more than a generation, become something of an institution. For many, the bike has opened up whole new chapters in the world of motorcycle touring, even attracting those who would not have looked twice at two wheels before. 8” X 9”

HONDA THE COMPLETE STORY

Honda is the largest and most important manufacturer of motorcycles in the world. Crowood MotoClassics: Honda traces the company's development through all the major models, from the tiny-engined pedal cycle that marked the firm's beginning in 1946 up until the monstrously powerful superbikes of the eighties and nineties. Including detailed technical discussion of all the innovative machines, coverage of Honda's highly successful racing record and a full company history, this is the most complete and up-to-date analysis of Honda yet available - making it essential reading for the many thousands of Honda owners, past, present and future. 9.5” X 6.5”

HONDA THE EARLY CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE

The basic Honda history is well known with a Harley-Davidson style beginning of a wooden shed in 1946 (or 40 years later than H-D's) and Soichiro Honda producing clip-on engined bicycles in a transport starved, near bankrupt Japan. With a devastated economy, little infrastructure and masses of motivation (three things the British didn't have) there was no stopping the inventive entrepreneurs. Soichiro was both a sound businessman and inspired engineer. In ten years he had produced his first camshaft 250, in 20 he had conquered the world in the showroom and on the racing circuits; in 30 (near where we stop this book) his name was a household word everywhere, from Borneo to Birmingham. 9.5” X 12”
